Uni tamed by Colts 1st Grade

Manly Colts ventured out to the manicured surrounds of St Paul's College Oval on Saturday determined to compete with and throw down the gauntlet to the front-running Sydney Uni Colts Teams! And compete we did!!

First things first-1st Grade Colts flew the flag for Manly Rugby Football Club and rescued the Club from a clean sweep!

Secondly, after the 43-25 victory over the previously undefeated Sydney Uni side, Manly sits (for the moment) atop of the Competition Table!

Uni ruin Marlins' day with late surge

Despite Alan Jones and his 1983 premiership-winning side willing them on from the sideline, the modern day Marlins were unable to halt Sydney University from adding to the chapters of heart-breaking losses on Saturday.

Manly led for the majority of the match but couldn't go with the premiers when it mattered, going down 35-23 on a crisp winter's day at the Village Green.

It was a familiar storyline in recent Manly v Uni clashes; the Marlins pushing them all the way but the Students winning the key moments.

"It's probably one of the most frustrating games I've had in a Marlins jersey," captain Tim Fairbrother said minutes after fulltime. Read more...

The Mighty Manly Marlins take on Sydney University in one of the big clashes of the Sydney club rugby season.

In keeping with the international theme, two Englishmen get their 1^st grade run on debuts: Tom Chesters at fullback and hulking Jimmy Gentle at prop!

Conspiracy theorists are out suggesting that coach Damien Hill is not releasing the Melbourne Rebel players on a bye weekend intentionally. Hill was Sydney Uni coach and Uni is down a few players stepping into the Waratahs.

“The competition is poorer for not releasing players,” said MMMs coach Phil Blake. “The Sydney grade competition is the 3^rd tier and players should play rugby at a good standard when available.

“It is very annoying to think that players like Eddie (Ahololei) and Jordy (Reid) will be twiddling their thumbs or playing lower level club rugby,” added a frustrated assistant coach, Damien Cummins. Read more...

Celebrating the clubs past players

Retired captain and half back, Chris Cottee, will be introduced to the crowd and thanked for his amazing longevity at 1st grade level and dedication to the club.

Also attending the game will be the re-union of ex coach Alan Jones and the 1983 Manly championship winning team that included 7 Wallabies. They will be congregating on the Wimbledon side of the ground.
