2nd grade: The Colin Caird Shield boys were chopped around by team changes right up until kick-off but played well to lead Eastwood 14-7 at halftime at a wind-blown TG Millner Field.
But the Woodies were a different side after the break, coming from behind to win 27-14.
Defeat means the Marlins will finish anywhere between fourth and sixth depending on next Saturday's result against Warringah.
"I take some positives out of the game. The first half we dominated field position and possession and scored a couple of good tries," coach John Kelly said.
"Our execution wasn't as great in the second half and we invited them back in and they took the invitation.
"But considering all the problems we had in the lead-up, there was plenty to like about our performance.
"We can finish anywhere between fourth and sixth so we control our own destiny against the Rats."
3rd Grade: Adam MacDonald was happy as any coach could be after a loss following his side's 14-10 defeat at the hands of Eastwood.
The Marlins boss felt it was a timely wake-up call two weeks out from the play-offs and he won’t be losing any sleep over the slightly off-key performance.
"Our problem was we'd come off a good lot of wins. Playing Penrith last week where we didn’t have to really commit to rucks or anything didn’t help our cause either," MacDonald explained.
"The second half was a lot better than the first and I think come semi-final time the loss will be good for us.
"It's a good reality check. We now know we've got to do the hard yards to get what we want.
"You'd rather have a loss like this now than during September. We will bounce back from this."
Outside back Lachlan Cameron had an outstanding game and almost won the game for Manly with a late try.
4th Grade: The young Marlins secured third spot after swamping Eastwood 41-0.
It was Manly's only success on a trying day at Millner.
Daniel Boland, Trent Barnabas, Tom Sparkes, Takumi Kaneko and Peter Swann crossed for the victors.
Just as pleasing was Manly's defensive effort in keeping the Woodies scoreless.
The Marlins will ensure the Rats take ownership of the wooden spoon with victory at the village green next Saturday.
