Manly coach Phil Blake has backed his team to lift for next Saturday's local derby against Warringah as the Marlins look to prevent the season fizzling out on a disappointing note.
Speaking after last weekend's 48-35 loss to Eastwood, Blake called on his players to lift for one last effort against the old enemy.
The Marlins officially dipped out of the finals race after the Woodies defeat but are gearing for a red-hot crack at Manly Oval against the crew from Narrabeen.
"I think we'll have a lot better attitude being our last game and wanting to finish on a high note in the local derby," Blake said.
"I wouldn't think there would be a lack of motivation to beat Warringah.
"We don’t want to finish off with a loss at home to the Rats."
Manly cannot move from eighth spot after going down to Eastwood at TG Millner Field.
The hosts led 13-7 at the break before the game degenerated into 'you score, we score'.
Lupini Siale, Dylan Sigg, Mark Fisher, Leon Bott and Adam D’Arcy crossed for the Marlins to at least ensure a bonus point.
"It was a game of touch footy," Blake lamented.
"Every time we scored, they scored. It's not ideal when you're trying to get yourself back in the game."
"We had a lot of disruptions and injury but it’s no excuse to be so soft defensively."
"Our attack wasn't too bad and our forward played well but Eastwood didn’t work for one try."
