COLTS - Marlins ready themselves for the finals

BY ALEX GRAVES

The Manly Marlins First and Second grade Colts begin their finals campaign this weekend, with both sides confident they are up to the task of finals football.

For First grade a third place finish on the ladder means they will face West Harbour this weekend with the winner to earn a week off and a preliminary finals spot while the loser will have to take the long way to the title.

Coach Jono Harvey believes his side go into the finals in good form despite a rusty win against Easts last weekend.

“We started well, but fell away towards the end… We were well below our best,” Harvey said.

“It was good for the guys to learn to deal with things going wrong.”

Although they were beaten by the Pirates in their one clash this year, Harvey still believes his side are more than capable of getting the job done.

“We’re a changed team to the one that played them last time, with different players in key positions.

“The boys have trained well this week and look up to task.”

The Marlins and Pirates will do battle on Saturday afternoon at 1pm at Forshaw Rugby Park.

In Second grade a seventh place finish means the Marlins move straight into knockout football with a clash against Northern Beaches rivals Warringah.

Coach Zak Beer believes his side are more than capable of working their way through to the Grand Final despite being faced with ‘no second chances’.

“Everything is against us and we like that,” Beer said.

“We’ve had a consistent  XV over last few weeks which  has meant our combinations have come together.

“We believe we can be there in four weeks’ time and this is the first test.”

Beer’s side also play at Forshaw but play on Sunday at 10am.
